I've been working on Christmas presents for my kids. This year I have ambition (WOW), so I'm making them a few things...crocheting, sewing. Anyone on my list, be prepared - yours might be home made this time, too!
Yesterday I cleaned out and decluttered my son's room. He is a pack rat and I haven't touched it in two years. Also took apart the bunk beds and moved one of them upstairs to our little game room. His room is only big enough to hold his bed and his drum set. It was looking like a cave in there. So much better now!
I've done all of the winterizing the home place stuff. All the kids have winter clothing - although my girl needs new snow pants. She is very hard on them.
Parents coming Monday, MIL and brother Joe's family coming on Wednesday for the holiday weekend. The pre-shopping is done and I'm ready. Hopefully I won't forget to thaw out the turkey. I love company for Thanksgiving.
A friend here is having a recycle party after Thanksgiving. Best idea I've ever heard. Bring anything you no longer want, and "shop" for new stuff for free! All leftovers will be donated elsewhere. Of course there will also be food, friends and a girl's night out. That right there is worth it to me.
I want to be on your homemade list! Do you still make Barbie clothes? ;)
Love the leftover party stuff. Sounds kind of like White Elephant. Hm... Beckie also had a good idea about getting rid of old jewelry like that, although I think she's waiting until January when we have no holiday things to do and need social event ideas again. ;)
Carla called me last Sun. night and it was SO good to talk with her. She is such a shining example of a godly mature woman. There are some things I don't like about moving but I am looking forward to being nearer to her.
so good to hear from you. The boys are definitely rubbing off on me. I'm going to try a half-n-half mix with hamburger and venison for spaghetti tonight. I'll let you know how it goes. Hope y'all have a great Thanksgiiving. A recycling party sounds like fun!
You all are so great about reading and praying when prayer requests are sent out. Thank you so much. I know it makes such a huge difference to have as many Christians as possible praying for the same things.
I want to update on some things that have been asked for by me. My husband and his hand are fine. It's healed with very little scarring. The Koffa children (all three) have been approved by immigration. They will not get their visas until sometime in November. Thank you so much for those prayers. We are so looking forward to having these kids back with their parents.
Remember Sarah's family as today and tomorrow will be extremely difficult. I'm guessing her Uncle Jim's visitation will be tonight and the funeral tomorrow. It will be a catholic service. As of this morning I haven't heard any definite details.
There is one more thing near and dear to my heart. With their permission, I would like prayers on behalf of Rob and Maggie Johnstone. Rob and his daughter Molly are members of our congregation. Maggie fell away many, many years ago. We recently learned that Maggie has been diagnosed with cancer - it has shown up in many places, including her bones. The doctors are saying if it responds to treatment, than maybe a year or two. If it doesn't respond to treatment (radiation) then just a few months is all she has. She is in her very early fifties.
Pray first that she be reconciled to God, as that is the bigger worry for us all. Also ask that if the Lord wills, she be granted health like King Hezekiah - time in which to come back to him, and if so, years of active service in his kingdom. I don't know Maggie since she is not a faithful member and I have not lived here long, but I dearly love and appreciate Rob and Molly. The heartache that they are going through tears at all of us.
Also, are you just trying to make me more jealous? I guess if I have seen prices below $3.80 in my area, it will be cheaper down in the Downer's Grove and Naperville area.
I had an exterminator here today, and he could have been Randy's brother. If I hadn't thought it would have embarrassed both of us, I'd have hugged him.
I'm requesting prayers for my sister's family on the loss of her 48-year-old brother-in-law Jimmy Sutherland. He died suddenly today after undergoing surgery on Monday (or Tuesday). Details are on her post and his.
For those of you who know them, keep John and Barb and the family in your prayers. This will be particularly hard because Jimmy was the youngest of the six children in John's family and the first one of that generation to die.
I read of the loss on Sarah's blog. Quite a shock for the family, I'm sure. I'm guessing the road to the west was Wisconsin? and Genola lived nearby. I know Delaware, a friend of mine from high school lives there, Janet Richardson.
We are in the midst of our fall gospel meeting with Gary Henry. He has been talking about the things that hinder our spiritual life such as: our drive for things, our drive for fun and pleasure, overextending ourselves by being involved in too much, and such things. Basically it's about the things we will sacrifice our time and money to get/do yet we complain if we are expected to do more for the Lord or give more to the Lord's work. Very thought provoking. He's doing a great job.
