January loves me...

It is the month I broke my arm roller skating. It is the month I sneezed and was hospitalized for two days for a nose bleed that wouldn't stop.Today I was out with the kiddos and jumped belly first into a snow saucer that didn't slide. I went face first into the icy driveway... Now I have a pavement burn on my chin - just like a wiped-out toddler.I had to laugh because my kids were standing there wondering if I was okay - so silent you could have heard a pin drop. Can't say as I blame them after other January fiascos. They were there to witness them, too.LET THE NEW YEAR BEGIN!! :)(I just hope it is my only January "accident")

Home sweet home!

Went to Rockford, IL on Monday for Christmas, came back today to Minnesota. For any of you who are interested, she posted pictures on 12-26 of my parents' house. It is the only place that I remember living before I got married - although they moved there when I was two. The picture of the house is beautiful all covered in snow. Catch a glimpse of one of my memories of childhood captured on film.Hope all of you are well and dry and warm :)

I've neglected to teach my children letter-writing etiquette :)

I've run out of time trying to make most of the kids christmas gifts. So, no Christmas cards went out this year. However, I did need to send cards to those who get school pics of my kids every year... our siblings and parents. I bought one box of cards and enlisted the help of my children.Ana was to address the envelopes. She had a list of names (husband + wife + surname) and my address book. She's new at this sort of thing, so some were written as they appeared in the address book: last name first, male's first name, no wife's name. Some had no last name, but both husband and wife's first name. On some for Rockford, she left off the IL part. On a couple, she didn't write any name at all, only addresses.Scott was to sign, include pictures, stick on return addresses and stamp. In signing, he got in touch with his southern roots and signed like a true Alabamian. I won't ruin the surprise for my sister and niece on here. :)Ah, life with children!

What's new....

Thanksgiving weekend went well. The food all turned out right and the company was enjoyable, what more can I ask?My sister-in-law, Kelli, wanted to find new stockings for her family of 5. We went shopping Friday on a mission... find something great for cheap. We found red wool felt stockings that you decorate yourself on sale for $1.50 each at Jo-Anne's. (Not with the white fake-fur cuff.) Her three daughters each drew out a design on paper and we decorated according to their pattern. We used felt squares, ribbon, and sequins in various shapes and colors. I was blown away by how they turned out. They were all BEAUTIFUL! There was a simple snowman for my brother, large white snowflakes for my SIL, a snowman inside a snowglobe, a collage of snowy things, and a snow-covered landscape with decorated pines under a night sky. We spent $15 on all materials and each would have sold in the store for $20 when done. I embroidered their names on the cuffed top to finish them off. We f...

Time for something new.

I've been working on Christmas presents for my kids. This year I have ambition (WOW), so I'm making them a few things...crocheting, sewing. Anyone on my list, be prepared - yours might be home made this time, too!Yesterday I cleaned out and decluttered my son's room. He is a pack rat and I haven't touched it in two years. Also took apart the bunk beds and moved one of them upstairs to our little game room. His room is only big enough to hold his bed and his drum set. It was looking like a cave in there. So much better now!I've done all of the winterizing the home place stuff. All the kids have winter clothing - although my girl needs new snow pants. She is very hard on them.Parents coming Monday, MIL and brother Joe's family coming on Wednesday for the holiday weekend. The pre-shopping is done and I'm ready. Hopefully I won't forget to thaw out the turkey. I love company for Thanksgiving.A friend here is having a recycle party after Thanksgiving. Best idea I've eve...

Thank you's

You all are so great about reading and praying when prayer requests are sent out. Thank you so much. I know it makes such a huge difference to have as many Christians as possible praying for the same things.I want to update on some things that have been asked for by me. My husband and his hand are fine. It's healed with very little scarring. The Koffa children (all three) have been approved by immigration. They will not get their visas until sometime in November. Thank you so much for those prayers. We are so looking forward to having these kids back with their parents.Remember Sarah's family as today and tomorrow will be extremely difficult. I'm guessing her Uncle Jim's visitation will be tonight and the funeral tomorrow. It will be a catholic service. As of this morning I haven't heard any definite details. There is one more thing near and dear to my heart. With their permission, I would like prayers on behalf of Rob and Maggie Johnstone. Rob and his daughter Molly ...

More prayers

I'm requesting prayers for my sister's family on the loss of her 48-year-old brother-in-law Jimmy Sutherland. He died suddenly today after undergoing surgery on Monday (or Tuesday). Details are on her post and his.For those of you who know them, keep John and Barb and the family in your prayers. This will be particularly hard because Jimmy was the youngest of the six children in John's family and the first one of that generation to die.

We are in the midst of our fall gospel meeting with Gary Henry. He has been talking about the things that hinder our spiritual life such as: our drive for things, our drive for fun and pleasure, overextending ourselves by being involved in too much, and such things. Basically it's about the things we will sacrifice our time and money to get/do yet we complain if we are expected to do more for the Lord or give more to the Lord's work. Very thought provoking. He's doing a great job.Wish you all could be here to hear him.Hope you're having a good week.

My life is an open book,

So tagging me probably won't be enlightening, but I was tagged so here it goes (if I can think of 8). I'm trying to think of things that she or she wouldn't know since they knows me best.1. My favorite dolls were paper dolls - still are.2. I hate going over a hill where I can't see the ground at the crest, so even driving a car, I close my eyes for that split second that I believe I'll fall off the earth. 3. I am afraid of strong winds and won't sit around a window if the wind is blowing very hard. My fear reaches panic level if I'm inside a vehicle then.4. I do not like new experiences, I feel safe with the known.5. My car was dented or wrecked six times in the first six months that I had my license. Gave my dad all his gray hairs.6. I taught her to read when she was four.7. I was a tumbling clown, the littlest angel at the top of the pyramid, and Piglet in middle school productions.8. I am a natural Soprano, not an alto - although I almost always sing alto...
